Olive wood is one of the hardest and most beautifully patterned woods in the world.
Some species live for over a thousand years because the olive tree is not often harvested for lumber, but rather for its fruit. Our olive wood is sourced from the Calabria Region in southern Italy; then kiln dried in central Pennsylvania. Once dried, the wood is shipped to Connecticut where my dad cuts it to size, chisels out old bark, and hand-sands and burnishes it to finish.Â
Shapes and grain patterns will vary from tray to tray, as will naturally occurring imperfections in the wood. All trays are prepared with three coats of food-safe spar varnish on the bottom, and four hand rubbed coats of food-safe Danish oil on the top to preserve the wood and to bring out its beautifully chaotic grain. The trays are finished with brushed bronze hardware.
Trays  are approximately 18 inches x 11 inches. Each is unique.  Â
